I was asked to dinner by a fine man for Tuesday night. He asked me a week in advance, he arrived on time, he opened all my doors and he took me to a fantastic restaurant. This man has worked as an employee of the fire department, as well as a successful computer programmer. Some interesting facts are: he is colorblind, he is a rebel because he doesn’t wear a seat belt, he is a combat vet AND a regular temple goer. A surprising fact is that he is a member of my ward. Finally, I meet a real man in my ward. But here is the problem: He is too short (5 foot 5) and he was born in 1923. That’s right, I went on a date with an octogenarian! He was on a South Pacific bomber squad in World War II and he likes to tell me stories during Sunday School. He wanted to thank me for my help with his genealogy program and was persistent in taking me to dinner. I think he should become a mentor to other single men in my ward.
