Hawaii-Jamie

There are dreams that I have of visiting far off villages in places like Timbuktu, but I always end up coming to Hawaii. The reasons for spending my hard earned money on trips to a place I lived for 5 years and visit often are many. First, it’s Hawaii. The beaches are clear and the air is warm and inviting. Second, are the fantastic people who still grace my life. I adore those who formed my character when I was a young and impressionable co-ed at BYUH. Their names are important to me because I pray for them everyday, but more important are their shared characteristics and the universal examples they share. They are the kind of people who run and hug and laugh at old stories while still giving good advice towards the next stage of life. They are people who range in age from 3 months to mature (I don’t even know my oldest friends’ ages) and they do not discriminate on my current age either. They have let me snorkel with their equipment, drive their cars, sleep on their futon, buy me Fijian Roti at FoodFest, hold their babies (AHHH) and take a million pictures of them. I love that my dreams of completing a Triathlon were encouraged by my friends. I love that my dream of eating manapua from 7-11 and Chocolate Haupia Pie from Ted’s Bakery were expected by my friends. I love that I always choose to come back here, home, when I have vacation time. Perhaps I won’t make it to the nether regions of the world, but I will have Ohana in the Aina forever.
